DEXTER’S JOURNEY

Born and raised on the eastside of Detroit, MI, Dexter learned early in life the unshakable power of drive, grit, and resilience. His family and community were the bedrock upon which he built his character and ambition. His parents, siblings, grandparents, great-grandmother, uncles, aunties, and cousins taught him that success is not just about talent or luck. Success is about a winning mindset, the relentless pursuit of goals, and the unwavering support of those who believe in you.

Every accomplishment Dexter has achieved in his life is attributed to the village of people who raised him, believed in him, and empowered him to dream bigger and aim higher. From an early age, he was active in school, sports, and church, all of which instilled in him the positive influences of his hometown of Detroit, the city that he loves the most.

Today, Dexter is a decorated leader in higher education, a four-time college graduate, a devoted husband to his beautiful wife, Kelly, and a loving father to their amazing daughters, Ruby Lynn and Raya. A former first-generation college student, he earned his Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in Sports Studies from Central Michigan University (Fire Up Chips!), and later, two graduate degrees from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN: a Master of Science in Sport and Wellness Leadership and a Master of Arts in Communication Arts. On Mother’s Day of 2021, Dexter created history by becoming the first man to earn a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Studies, specializing in higher education and student affairs from The Ohio State University.

But his story isn’t just defined by academic achievements and professional success. His story is shaped by the struggles that tested him and the triumphs that fueled his determination. From experiencing the tragic loss of several family members to once boiling water to take baths, his life has been marked by challenges that have strengthened his resilience and deepened his understanding of what it takes to overcome adversity. These experiences have taught him that no matter the odds, we all have the power to rise and succeed.

Now, Dexter Shorter is on a mission to use his story, wisdom, and passion to inspire and transform the lives of thousands. Through education, inspiration, and meaningful relationships, he aims to empower others to harness their potential and achieve greatness. His faith and family are the driving forces behind everything he does, and they continue to fuel his desire to make a difference in the lives of those around him.

YOU’RE IN GREAT COMPANY.
